We are moving to care for my mom. My mom thinks she is going home. She talks about going home all the time. There is no home to go to. We sold her home to be able to care for her now at home and later have someone come in and help. She gets so angry asking about her money and that she is waiting for her money to leave. I am struggling. Should we tell her that her house has been sold? How do I handle this? Mom has Early Onset Alzheimer's, she is 64yrs old.

Don't be afraid to call 911 if she becomes suicidal or violent. There are many of us whose loved ones have been successfully treated in inpatient psychiatric units.

Do you have any outside caregivers helping? Any thoughts of what level of care she may need down the road?

I do have Power of Attorney. She hasnt seen a geriatric Psychiatrist. Just her neurologist and her pcp. She was admitted to the hospital for 10 days as she was trying to jump off my balcony. So she has been put on an anti depressant.

This is so tragic, and hits home. I will be 64 in a few weeks.

Do you have Power of Attorney? I'm going to assume yes, if you sold the house.

Has mom ever been seen by a geriatric psychiatrist? One of the things about dementia seems to be that it leads to an increase in anxiety, depression and agitation, that no amount of reassurance is able to counter.

Meds work. Sometimes it takes a while to get the right dosages and meds, but they can really help with the symptoms.
