I am curious if there are any companies that offer long-term care insurance for people with an Alzheimer's/dementia diagnosis? My mom doesn't have long-term care insurance and I feel like I dropped the ball on that and when I first started noticing things I should have applied. Should have, could have, would have syndrome. But here we are. I am willing to pay for her premiums for it if I can find a company that will offer it and not deny her because of it. I am not sure how else to pay for LTC for her. If we sold her house it wouldn't cover the costs for memory care for more than maybe 5 years. We live in northern CA...memory care here ranges from 7k to 9k a month. Her retirement and social security would only touch half the costs, renting her house would cover another chunk but still leave us with at least $1200 to come up with and that's without any other expenses for health care etc. I am at a loss and totally open to suggestions. I am really hoping there is a company out there that offers long-term care insurance...even if there is a waiting period for it to start after she is approved. Thanks for listening!
You may want to contact your local governmental social services department. They can provide resources on what happens when money runs out.
round the clock care will easily run $400 per day...or $12,000 monthly. That is if you could find a licensed agency willing to accept only $20 per hour.
in home care 24/7 is always more costly than in a facility unless the family is providing some of that care for free.
