I think it would be fine for her to get in the shower or bathe in front of the sink with her pajamas on a couple times a week. Are there any harms or issues I'm not thinking of?
Mom says she is afraid of "the people" seeing her naked, and especially if they decide to put her on TV, which she says they do sometimes. She can tell when she's being video-taped because lights come on (lights that I don't see). The people are hallucinations that she sees most of the time. Some of them have names, some are nice, some are creepy. Some are adults, some are children, some are tiny babies. They are often in the room with her while they are simultaneously in West Palm Beach or Richmond. She says there are thousands of men named Mike and thousands named John, and all the Mikes and Johns look the same.

I met someone last week with *shower issues*.

Father was refusing showers, felt exposed, people watching etc. The familiy's solutuon was to install a shower curtain in the AL (at their expense) let him shower himself (they suspected he stood there not actually washing anything) & family took turns hovering around *for safety* waiting in the bedroom. Family had to sigh a disclosure if he fell as not actively supervised.

Sometimes families have to do theirs in the best way that fits them. It may not be right for others.

But I think that lady knew how far their solution was getting from common sense as she told me.

Sometimes keeping to common sense becomes the challenge!.. :(

Would she be OK with bra and underwear, just thinking it would be easier. Or not if she feels she is too exposed.
Would she accept female assistant who may calm her down enough to do proper bathing.
Just thinking bathing in her pajamas could be very minimal cleaning and dangerous. Is she stable enough if she splashes water around her. I cannot imagine proper bathing in sink in pajamas.

When I first read this I was actually going to suggest these really light water proof clothes, that dry really quick, but then I realized that completely beats the purpose of a shower. But they do make some really light shirts , in the sporting good section, that dry really quick, and don't hold the water in the fabric. I've worn them in the pool , they are comfortable and light.

I was thinking maybe even a man's Large, that's really long so you could maybe get her to at least take her pants off.

Otherwise I see nothing wrong with it. We just adjust to there needs the best we can.

BlueHeron, I read your bio and am wondering when was the last time your Mom was tested for a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). A UTI can mimic dementia, and cause all sorts of problems such as being angry, seeing things, etc.

Your Mom's primary doctor or even a visit to urgent care can run this test (pee in a cup) and check the findings while you wait. Antibiotics will help cure a UTI.

I honestly cannot see why not as long as the pajamas have a loose waistband that allows washing access to all areas. I would worry about slips and falls with the wet clothing as she removes them more than anything, so be certain there is good non-slip surface and a hook in the shower for her to hang her washing garments. I think this just falls under "dealing with it best you can".

There's nothing wrong with a sink/spit bath a few times per week as long as she doesn't have continence problems, then she probably needs a full rinse down below. But why don't you put up a special high tech shower curtain that blocks cameras so she can shower in peace 😉

She takes off the wet pajamas and wraps herself in a towel to dry then puts on her clothes while the towel is still around her. Then she hangs the pajamas on the shower towel rack.

I've tried telling her the people aren't there. It doesn't work. She says they argue with me! Haha! What a ride.

She is not in the right mind to call the shots on such things. Showering in pajamas makes no sense at all. She wouldn’t get all that clean and would be freezing and weighed down by sopping wet pajamas! And it’s a bit of a struggle to take off sopping wet clothes.

She may need a mild anxiety med to ease the stress of hallucinations. You could try to reassure her no one is watching her, or tell her you’ve made them leave.

if all else fails, maybe try a loose swimsuit?
