My brother which is a retired veteran is recently in nursing home after having a brain tumor and suffered a minor stroke. Needing to bring him home to his own home and being in an non-walking state (which may require rehab and wasn't given that). He will also need help with changing, dressing and some eating requirements. And this will be needed more than 20 hrs a week.Needing help if someone can direct me to the right agency that supplies the request I am asking for. Thanks

We are in Central IL and use a company called synergyhomecare.com. They are very nice and will spend as many hours at your house as you need.

The first thing to do is help him determine if he has any "Service Connected Disability" Contact the Veterans Assistance Commission and they can help with that.
You can also contact Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.
And the VA does have Social Workers and Patient Advocates that may help.
You could also contact Senior Services they will help determine if he qualifies for any of their services.
I know the VA does provide a {very} limited number of hours of caregiving per month.
But there are programs designed to help keep the Veteran in their home and that may pay for caregivers as well as other services and may absorb the cost of home renovation if that is needed to help keep him in his home.

There are participants on this forum who will give you lots of guidance about working through the VA.

Does your brother have an assigned PoA? If not, he may eventually be assigned a court-appointed guardian. If he doesn't have legal "capacity" to make decisions for himself and doesn't have a PoA then a guardian would do this for him. Family and spouses don't get to do this just because they are related.

Also, in-home care by outside aids and agencies will require oversight and management by "someone". It is also expensive (depending on what state/city it could be $20-$30 p/hr) and it makes him a literal employer.

I'm sorry for your brother's circumstances. I wish him improved health and that he can find appropriate and affordable good care.
