My sister is having trouble accepting that our big, strong daddy is no longer our big, strong daddy. She has a lot of anger inside, and has no patience when dealing with him. I am hoping there is a helpful book she (we) can read.

I suggest you read this 33 page booklet to learn all about dementia. Lots of Do's and Don't tips for dealing with dementia sufferers are suggested in the booklet.

Understanding the Dementia Experience, by Jennifer Ghent-Fuller

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/210580

Jennifer is a nurse who worked for many years as an educator and counsellor for people with dementia and their families, as well as others in caring roles. She addresses the emotional and grief issues in the contexts in which they arise for families living with dementia.

The reviews for her books are phenomenal b/c they are written in plain English & very easy to read/understand. Her writings have been VERY helpful for me.

The full copy of her book is available here:

Best of luck.

There is a great general book on Aging by Atul Gwande. It's called On Being Mortal-- What matters in the end.

Dr. Gwande brings your vision up from "in the weeds", where many of us start during a crisis like a sudden dementia diagnosis-- to looking at the big picture of what really matters.

First of all, great question! Secondly, you are a kind sister and daughter to move this situation into a better direction.

Stick around because many posters have recommended books that will be helpful. Hopefully, they will see your question and tell you the titles.

I will suggest that you also look at listening to podcasts on caregiving. There are tons of great podcasts on this topic.

Do a search. I believe I even saw a list of podcasts related to caregiving listed somewhere on the AgingCare website.

You could also do a YouTube search on caregiving.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

The very first book I read after my late husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia was The 36 Hour Day by Nancy L Mace and Peter V. Rabins. That is a great place to start. Teepa Snow(a dementia expert)also has many great books and videos on YouTube that are very helpful as well.
Education is key with this horrible disease of dementia, so good for you to want to educate your family members about it as that will help everyone as they take this journey with your dad.
