Mom is in a nice ALF. She has dementia and is high functioning. For the most part it’s working now all though she had to be moved to a single room because no one could be brought in to her shared room because she got so upset and it didn’t go well. Now this has doubled the cost of care. Her SS and savings covers. But when the money runs out I’m not sure what we will do- I’m told the place has a benevolent program so she can stay after so many years of paying but I don’t think this is guaranteed. If she goes on Medicaid are there places that accept Medicaid that are nice. I know I have to research this but anyone have experience with this?
You might want to check on a board and care home. My mom was kicked out of a national chain memory care because of her agitaion. The care home worked much better for her, often they accept medicaid (though mom was self pay), there is a better care ratio, they are cheaper. And the rooms were so small at mom's facility, a second bed would not be able to even for in there. The room was big enough for the bed when the easy chair. That was it.
