Hopefully the person is in a Hospital on IV antibiotics. Also, a probiotic. Cranberry tablets are usually for preventing them not sure about when its fully gone. Lots of water. Need to fully void. So should be catherized.

In my own case D Mannose worked much better, as I could not take Cranberry due to the acidity. And it didn't work as well.
Problem with all the antibiotics is they aren't working. Sunday New York Times just LAST Sunday had a front page article on UTI and how nothing is working on them right now. Some urologists are even suggesting D-mannose now. I swear by it and am not a believer in fact in vitamins and supplements. The antibiotic use is causing some C-Diff as well, and once you have it a bladder infection looks lightweight in comparison.

D-Mannose. I was getting upward from four UTI per year with several going into a pyelonephritis in the kidneys. Doctor was threatening me with cipro daily. Something they don't like now to give at ALL. New York Times last Sunday had front page article last Sunday, in fact, that the current drugs are not working for UTI and very worrisome. Also some not showing in urinalysis, and cultures needed for correct drug. For me, and I am a western medicine old RN who doesn't believe in vitamins and supplements, D-Mannose WORKED like a miracle. I take a few heart drugs and if I was down to "You can take one drug to the Island and not more" thing I would take the D Mannose. It acts much like cranberry in that bacteria cannot adhere to the wall of the bladder. One capsule per day. I happen to use Source Naturals D Mannose, 120 capsules for about 30.00 on Amazon myself, but imagine other brands work; I just won't let go of what works for me. I have not had a single infection for upwards of 10 years. Has worked for two friends, on on Facebook and one at the dog park. So all anecdotal here, but at that price worth a try. Daily. And once cured don't stop it. I hear that many urologists are now suggesting it as well. Please consider giving it a try.
