Silly question about spontaneous flatulence. When she stands up from a sitting position, she passes gas uncontrollably. She is quite embarrassed by this and I'm wondering if anyone knows a solution. I know in the scheme of things, this is not a big problem. Just wanted to put it out there, perhaps someone else has found a solution. Thanks

Simethicone. Less than a dollar at Walmart. I take it myself. It's a pill. Or she can chew Gas-X, perhaps take Beano. Does she have a lactose intolerance? That is a problem that many develop as they age. Try Lactaid milk and cut out or at least cut back dairy. It's an old joke to blame the dog....

My Dad has that same problem when he stands up... oh well, at least I know where he is in their house. It use to be worse but as txcamper noted above, my Dad found out he was lactose intolerance.... now if only I could convince my Mom that ice cream cottage and cheese are also lasctose when she prepares their meals.... but Mom thinks "a little bit won't hurt" :P

I don't know, but perhaps she could try getting up very slowly from a seated position, and see if this helps any.

My husband kept arguing that sherbet was non-dairy until I took him to the grocery store and let him read labels. He was thinking about sorbet - different stuff. I stand by the suggestion of anti-gas medicines, but I personally don't like the taste of the chewable ones, so I just use the pills. It's the ingredient that works (Simethicone) not the method of delivery.

Remember when people took walks after eating? Constitutionals they called them.

txcamper, ah ha, a flash from the past, the nightly *constitutional* walks. Walks greatly aid in the digestion :)
