Hello all,
I need help!!
I am have an elderly grandmother that lives alone and loves to be independent. However last night she was "sick" and has trouble seeing. I have seen the life alert but I don't think we are at the stage we need the monthly monitoring just yet like the life alert. But she needs to be ale to get in contact wiih us when need be asap. I am looking for something where she can wear it like a watch like the "FILIP" watch for kids or a necklace or even a large button cordless phone so she can just pick up and hit one number and it calls us directly. All assistance doesn't necessarily need 911 and don't want to have them called if they are not needed...

The Jitterbug is supposed to be "the" cell phone for seniors. I don't have one and have never known anyone with one, but their reviews seem reasonably good on Amazon. It also looks like you can buy additional apps/coverage for it to make it even better for seniors with automated check-in calls or outbound calls for help. I have no connection to the company. :)

oh ok. Thank you very much for that. I found a site that has a one button contact for kids and I was thinking that could be used for the elderly that way she doesn't have to remember to bring the phone from level to level. ( she lives in a three level house)
That what you suggested is a thought as well!

My mom has a life alert system and it has been a god-send for her. I live about 5 hrs from her so I can't be available for emergencies. However before that I had gotten her a large button, no frills cell phone from Comsumer Cellular that we programmed with 1 button dialing. It has a very large display that's very easy to see and of course with the push of 1 button she can call me at anytime. If you're not yet ready for the life alert then this would probably be the best solution for her. I have mom's account set up so that she doesn't even see a bill. The monthly charges (around $18 total) comes directly out of my checking account. Hope this is a solution that can work for you.
