Find Care & Housing
As a GM spouse, I don't think so. Why would you want to marry in ur 80s. You lose so much. SS maybe effected. You may lose the pension. And the one main thing is if the person u marry ends up having health problems you may be expected to care for him.

Call GM benefits and check how your SS will be effected. Another problem will be you lose your health supplimental which is not expensive. My husband has a 10k policy on me, that would stop.

I don't know about GM, but my late husband's TIAA pension pays no matter what I do, and his state of GA Medicare supplemental is the same...although I could not add a new husband. I am 80 and have a "boy friend" of 82, but he has a lot of health problems and I have turned down his "offer" of marriage because I had to nurse one husband and don't want to do it again!

Generally a survivor benefit is for the life of the survivor. It doesn't matter if you remarry. I'm not familiar with GM's plan but all corporate plans follow the same general rules.

If you have GM medical supplement through your deceased husband, that may be affected. Health plans do not follow the same rules as pension plans.

I used to live in an area with many GM retirees. All widows were like “I’m not getting remarried” I’d lose my pension, health and my SS would be cut”. My Mom had an ATT pension of 3200.00 a month plus good SS - she would never have given that up.
